Guest blogging opportunities and how to run them

in Guest Blogging

If you’re going to accept guest author posts on your blog and offer guest blogging opportunities, then there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • You want to (continue to) provide value to your readers
  • You want to provide value to your guest authors
  • You want your site to remain “on-point” with the content

How to provide continued value to your readers with guest author blogging opportunities:

  • Specify what kind of content you are looking for.
  • Tell potential guest authors what your readers are interested in the most, in case they don’t do proper site assessments beforehand, as mentioned in How to do guest blogging properly
  • Moderate the guest author posts carefully, not all guest authors provide top quality content

How to provide value to your guest authors:

Your guest writers want backlinks and direct traffic from their content, so give a helping hand here as if this content was written by you and you alone.

  • Promote the content via normal channels of Tweets, ReTweets, social bookmarking etc…
  • Offer DoFollow links for the authors’ outbound links (OBLs) in their content.  You’re hopefully getting top quality, 100 unique content added to your blog for free so do what you can to give value back to the authors via DoFollow OBLs.

NOTE: Follow attributes are usually specified in a global site setting via All In One or Platinum SEO wordpress plugins, but Yoast’s Robot Meta plugins allows you more control over follow attributes on a per-post level.  So when you review the guest author posts, give them some “link love” by changing the outbound link attributes on their posts to DoFollow.

Moderate the content and change if needed:

This is your guest blogging opportunity, therefore you’re not beholden to anyone.  Therefore you have 100% control over the content that gets published on your site, which means you should be careful about your asset/site content.

Sometimes a guest author won’t know how or where to put in a resource box type of snippet so they just won’t do it, so do it for them one time… and mention that they can do their own resource box snippets in  future posts.

  • Thank guest authors for great content, it’s rewarding to them/us
  • Remind them if/when there are comments to respond to.
  • Try to establish a relationship with them, exchange instant messaging details or whatever…
  • Let them/us know when content was published so the guest authors can implement some of their own post-promotion tactics.
  • Stay in touch with guest authors, ask them if they received any benefits (increased SERPs, direct traffic, more sales etc…) from their publications.
  • And always compliment the content written along with the mandatory “thanks”.  It’s gratifying to see and hear when writing for someone else’s site.

Devil’s Advocate questions about guest blogging opportunities:

Q:   All I have are xfactor, MFA, made for Adsense, landing page types of  sites, etc…. so why would anyone want to accept my “self-serving” content?

Answer: If you haven’t built a site that is truly a resource, then I highly suggest you start one.  REAL businesses have assets, therefore your REAL business should be asset-based, not tactics-based or thin-affiliate-sites based.

Q: All I have are Web 2.0 properties that I’ve worked on for a while, will anyone write for my hub or blogger blog?

A: I seriously doubt it, no matter what the PAge Rank is for the site of “yours”.  So…again… build a reosurce or an asset type of site so guest bloggers sekeing guest blogging opprtunities see that you’re a truly serious marketer.

Guest blogging, guest post hosting and in generla guest blogging opportunities are for the serious marketers only.

The serious marketers who built assets through valuable unique content will get acceptance as guest authors a whole heck of a lot easier than people who just throw up a site and want others to write for it…

Also, when you seek guest blogging opportunities, your sites-that-are-assets are like your resume pre-qualifying you for acceptance as a guest blogger.

Well, If you have ever considered writing some script to automate those things that you are doing many times each day, then you have a great and easy way to automate the entir e process. It comes without saying that a few imacros and firefox add-ons will automate all actions connected to a browser (Mozilla). If you wish to automate your system as such, then you will need another script, straightforward commands can automate your system. Even a beginner can automate things using a simple software called as sikuli all you need to do is to tell Sikuli what to do by giving some screenshots and easy commands.
A GUI will be used with Sikuli. Sikuli is an open siurce scripting application that will use a mix of simple commands like click, type, wait and so on. There’s no internal API support, it simply searches the screen for the image within the screenshot-which implies that you’ll use it for anything. There’s literally no limit on how you employ it to automate things.
This is too good to be true, however if you watch the subsequent video, you may come to know that this can be very easy. If you visit their home page, you get a lot of tutorials and support; it will be a cake walk even for beginners. You can check the video as well as get the software at TechnoAges.com

This is a good post. I just got asked to guest write for the number one blog on the internet for my niche. I am pretty happy about that.

Guest blogging is growing a lot but it seems like a lot of marketers do not get it yet. It is much more effective than article marketing

Warner, yes and no.

With guest blogging you cannot spin one article and submit it to hundreds of places, and guest blogging requires not only good content but 100% unique content as well, which means it’s time consuming to do.

On the plus side of this, you get DIRECT targeted traffic from guest blogging, the links count for more in long run if DoFollow and they’re highest quality links I can imagine getting, links from relevant sites with active readership, traffic etc…

One of the ways that I ensure quality content on my site from guest bloggers is by running an incentivized contest. The authors with the articles that have the highest recommendation are the authors that get paid for their articles. I am always welcoming guest bloggers to my site

Yes, seeing as how it always provides some good direct targeted traffic, which is really the goal of guest blogging

I have a question about Blogger. It used to be that Blogger could be hosted on a website (mywebsite.com/blog). Now it seems that the address has to be blogger.mywebsite.com. So does using Blogger benefit my site at all?

I rather use Blogger than another blogging system if it benefits my main site. (I know other blogging systems are better).

It doesn’t hurt to use the Big 4 to direct traffic and links towards your main site

wordpress, hubpages, squidoo, blogger, but there’s always more of these authority platforms out there to use for traffic “stealing” and links. since this is about guest blogging, you might want to consider putting article son sites that accept guest posts to diversify the inbound links and widen your inbound links sources

Thank you for indulging my question even though it was off topic. It was the closest post on the site to the subject (at least that I could find). If I understand your reply correctly, Blogger is a good choice to direct traffic to my site, correct? But it’s not going to give me the benefit of the search engines seeing my site is being constantly updated because blogger.mywebsite.com won’t do you trick. So I should use another blogging system such as Wordpress that I can host on my site so the search engines see that I’m not running a stagnant site. Am I understanding correctly?
