You got it, glad to help. We got some resident SEO consultants and experts that are readers of this blog and they will all concur.

What EZ and I are referring to is people were saying Traffic Bug’s service didn’t provide them with links yet go tthem banned for bad links, and we were discussing how getting “bad” links cannot get you banned, fyi.

WF ticks me off sometimes because everybody rants and raves but there’s hardly any good SEO advice there, or people just aren’t willing to go to the effort to help you rethink your positions

As one of the “newbie” webmasters to whom you are referring in this post, I’d like to thank you for taking the time to bring some common sense to the subject. I had never thought of this. Surely the search engines would also have the same common sense!

So true and well said. Getting penalized for links that you are unaware of or that you do not solicit or condone, links that are out of your control is so totally illogical.

Correct, they don’t penalize except for the “penalty” of ignoring some links, giving no credit to site linked to is all

Very true. I have done massive amounts of comment spam and forum spam. End result? Always, always I get much better rankings, even when no other links have been built.

Yahoo on the other hand does seem to derank websites for having bad links pointing to them.

I also believe, whilst google does not derank sites for bad links, they may ignore some bad links in calculating final rank.
