Make changes to your on page optimization to avoid overstuffing

This post discusses why you might want to reconsider how your posts and pages are display in addition to the reasons why you might want to change your site titles, too.

My buddy Mike does well for a lot of his targeted terms and really knows his SEO and I sometimes look to see what he’s doing to see if there’s anything I’m missing out on…

He outranks me for a lot of terms that are medium to long-tail and kicks butt with Adsense because of this…

Here’s a screen shot for the search term “linkvana” for which we are both vying for top spots..

Mike’s post url is at #3 below (octocat), and I have indented listings further down, plus an ezinearticles article and another blog post from my internet marketing blog at very bottom, so i have 4/10 spots here, just not at the very top…  :(

Now, as you can see octocat isn’t a very good domain name for any type of term (except maybe for people who have 8 cats, lol) so how does Mike get top rankings despite the lack of  inherent SEO value in the domain name?

There are certain settings in AllInOneSEO plugin whereby you can change how your posts and pages are displayed, so if you have a domain name that has no inherent SEO value you do NOT want to append the site name or title.

Here’s a screenshot for the AllInOne SEO settings so note where you can adjust these settings.  It’s up to you to make the determination on whether or not your site needs this kind of change.

Removing site title from being appended to all posts and pages could cause better keyword density for your site’s content, resulting in higher rankings with less effort.

Something to think about…and test

Update: I am wiped out from writing over 1000-plus words and doing all these screenshots.  I still have to go back and h1 h2 tag the last 4 posts and edit the keywords and what-not but there have been changes in SERPS already.

I did a quick SERPs check for keywords in site title and the change has put this site on page 2 for the term “link building tips”, a term I never ranked well at all for, plus top of page 2 for term link building, instead of on bottom of page 2 and top of page 3… so changing site titles does work, you just have to careful when making these types of site-wide changes.

Proceed with caution…
