Natural Link Building + How To Fake It
A common piece of seo link building advice is to practice natural link building, but according to the folks at Google and other search engines, proactively generating backlinks is basically spam-like behavior.
To syndicate content and build web properties and websites for the sole purpose of creating an entity that backlinks to your desired end destinations is not what they’re hoping will happen. They want sincere editorial-like “votes” from other sites and people and places to be the only votes that occur/matter.
Therefore, what the search engines are really looking for are natural backlinks, votes given freely and with sincere purpose and intent.
For most people and websites, it’s not realistic to expect that writing good content will attract some links naturally. It just doesn’t happen at the rate at which anyone would want. It simply doesn’t…but if it did happen at a decent velocity, it still wouldn’t produce the results you want for a number of reasons.
You’d have to write tons of high quality content in order to (hopefully) get backlinks in a truly natural manner, and even then it’s out of your hands and in the hands of HOPE and in the hands of people will generous intentions (freely voting up content they Stumbled Upon).
I write some kick-ass content here on this site but SEO and Link building is a competitive niche that doesn’t make for freely obtained links from other top-quality sites in same niche. The more competitive a niche is, the more astounding your content has to be in order to get a smattering of natural backlinks.

I couldn’t agree with you more…those are just the facts. Like you said, if all you do is write content and hope for the best, you’ll never get anywhere; it’s just not the way it works. In theory it sounds good but that’s about all it does…sound good!
Roger that sentiment!
However, it DOES happen… but it’s just occurring too rarely to ever rarely matter (dumb pun)
What is important is to not let your links to appear automated and maintaining link velocity — the host may explain velocity if many of you here don’t know what that is. Big G has gotten much better at detecting spun content (this is why my LFE blogs were continually de-indexed) and why for some article marketing may be providing poor results. Google can now detect synonyms AND SENTENCES in content meaning the same thing resulting in many more articles and blog posts not being indexed. What does this mean? Well, it means it will take more work to get content indexed by Google and for the to backlink count — however, this is a good thing for Webmasters willing to put in the work to rank their sites because many will not put in the extra effort and will be generating far fewer backlinks.
What I recommend for those of you trying to rank your sites for low to medium competition keywords (probably most people who are reading this) is this:
1: If this is a brand new site join My Article Network. This network is more newbie friendly by limiting article distribution to a proper velocity for new sites. The interface for this service is also easier to use for people who are a little new to article spinning. Watch the videos about article spinning (it’s free to watch these). Spin your article to the extreme before publishing. I push my submissions to four or five hundred percent unique (they have a weird system for this) before publishing. Remember, you get out what you put into any system. Rewrite all of your sentences and the do the synonyms. If you think it’s unique enough spin it some more. This service because of the low distribution rate takes time to work but it does work. Give it time. Always link to sub-pages. On MAN do two links to sub-pages one link to the main page.
Host could you talk about Power Article Rewriter or The Best Spinner?
2. For more established sites I highly recommend Unique Article Wizard. Please for the love of God do NOT use this service if you have a brand new site or don’t know what you are doing. I will warn you if you don’t know what you are doing this service will get your site in the Google sandbox. This service can generate MANY MANY backlinks in a very short period of time. If despite my advice use this on a new site limit the amount of submissions to no more then say 20 per day 10 would be better. An older site let this thing rip. I like to do 50 submissions a day and submit a new article everyday if I can. If you submit one article a day at 50 submissions always do one article a day at 50 submissions. Spinning and submitting articles to this service is time consuming but WORTH IT. Remember, you must spin the hell out of your article to get the most from these services. Re-write every sentence. Vary number of sentences ie. {Hello, I’m from Paris.|Hi, I live in Berlin|}. Notice I omitted a sentence all together? This will confuse the search engines by not knowing what sentences to check against for similarity. Do the synonyms. The extra effort can mean the difference between hundreds of links counting and one link. Remember link to sub-pages the majority of the time.
3. It is very important to vary your link sources as well as anchor text. You must have more than one source of links. I recommend The Link Juicer for this. While this does take a while to set up it is a must have service for link diversity. The Link Juicer will give your site SB links and a few blog ones that appear totally natural. Highly recommended.
Hope This helped.
P.S. Host I would like to talk to you about a service I was locked out of and my links removed. Plz contact me via email.
Some good points here.
The Link Juicer is a pain in the butt to rewrite to their expected uniqueness rate, but it is effective and provides almost 100% DoFollow backlinks.
My Article Network was effective for me for a few months, and got me tons of links but after a while it was ineffective and I found the system to have flaws in it. For example, if 100 people in your category are auto-accepting articles via MAN, and you set your distribution to 100 sites, then the same sites will be repeatedly linking to you, and you don’t get to tap into the other sites unless you set your distribution to UNlimited which isn’t recommended because it puts more of the same spun content out there and slowly but surely devalues the network and value of your content…
BestSpinner? Haven’t tried it but watched the video, and like you said, Google’s getting better at detecting synonyms now which is exactly what BestSpinner does.
About Unique Article Wizard…. for new and old sites it’s best to link to various web properties via rotating resources boxes and to some money sites via article body. Contextual links had more weight, therefore article body content is where links to money sites should be, and the rotating resources boxes should…on a rotating basis link to some outer spokes of an open-ended link wheel.
On a forum about UAW I read a lot of users were canceling because they state it has become ineffective. I know links are king and we must self promote for a while to get rolling. I’m just wondering what might be the next revolution Google will use to rate sites?
I’ve only been reading your site for a few weeks, but I find your commentary quite interesting. I don’t subscribe to many sites these days, am looking forward to future articles.
Regards…
Hi Ric, if you could email me the link to the forum thread, I’d be happy to help those people out.
In SEO you always have to adapt in order to remain ahead of things. There have been some changes that affected UAW and its users, but only those who didn’t use it wisely.
Use the rotating random resource boxes, up to 17 of them
Don’t link directly to main sites, but to link wheel spokes that aren’t closed , but open -ended. One article submitted via UAW and linking to 17 different web properties/spokes of a link wheel will create a nice solid web ring of content.
I think it’s a good thing that the changes have been made, and seen because it is always good SEO to have a lot of high quality sites linking into yours even if they are DoFollow Web 2.0 properties you don’t own and control.
These web 2.0 properties don’t need a lot of links in order to rank well, therefore the vast number and wide dispersion of links obtainable from UAW is perfect for this.
As far as what’s new for Google’s valuing of sites? Same as always, good content getting linked to by good sites with good content
Dan,
You may wanna look at this. SENuke forum is also commenting on spinning. The owner has released a new video about it. It appears Google can now figure out if articles are spun. This would explain the UAW comment.
Dan, the forum is part of the KWA membership, but I will make mention of your site in case they want to investigate further.

That makes sense since it’s not hard to detect, really.
Footprints that define spun articles are:
article length (all these “similar” articles are 560-565 words each),
text blocks length (paragraphs length),
# of text blocks/paragraphs (same for all articles?),
same links in article (all these similar articles use same anchor text),
and rate at which these all come out, get indexed
Dan,
Beating a dead horse here I know but Google de-indexing spun content is also in the LFE members section. This is members only so I can’t link directly to it. The thread is titled “Blogs not getting indexed/Not getting any results”.
Members have offered a solution that is very similar to what SENuke’s owner has recommended and appears to be VERY labor intensive.
Is this the death of article marketing?
Well, I always knew that the whole Google Translation thing was gonna die a quick death.
Hmmm, let’s see google knows how its translates content into other languages then back again because…..Google’s the one doing it, so it makes sense they’d figure out what the auto-spun, auto-generated content will look like, then find out who is doing double -translating to create auto-spun content.
As far as other spinning techniques are concerned, I think people spend more WASTED time on spinning articles when they could have just re written their seed article and made it less footprint-detectable.
LFE was a HUGE waste of time, AutoPligg sends garbage links, Bookmarking Demon helps with indexing on content that get sindexed within 3 minutes anyways, big deal…. Good ole’ SEO is good unique content, same as always, not crap content creating a crap site for crap links.
Article Marketing isn’t dead, UAW isn’t dead if people followed my methods for beating this. I’ve outlined what the real footprints are for spun articles, so avoid those footprints and similarities and you’ll see that article marketing is far from dead. It’s just unique content writers like me who win
But even if you write the greatest post in the word, you still have to do a little work getting it to the right people. Without that, you might as well write it down on paper. That will be just as effective and as many people will see it.
Exactly my point!
It’s the newbies who still fall for the “write it and they will link to you” SEO myth.
Naturally obtained links DO occur… IF you already have people reading your stuff and they appreciate it enough to forward a “mention” along somewhere, somehow
