Post-race update: Thank you all so much for your donations. WE raised closed to 5700 dollars, some donations and matches are still pending. I finished in 4:07:15 for those who want to know race times.
I know, I know, as soon as someone wants something from you and is blatantly open about it, it’s quite a turn off, I get that.
When I ask people for donations it’s interesting how much quieter my email and Skype gets (should have asked for donations a long time ago instead of giving away my free time here on this site and there, too).
But here’s the dillio….
The Charity is Mass General Hospital, Kids with Cancer. Should be pretty obvious who this benefits and what it’s all about right?
If you want to donate (thanks in advance!) there’s information and donation links here
If you’re not comfortable filling out credit card information in order to donate, then you can donate via PayPal, but the money then comes to me, and I have to forward it along to the charity, and you won’t get the tax deduction benefit from it since the donation technically didn’t come from you. Sorry for the hassle, it’s the best I can do here but we need to abide by the rules.
The website referenced above should have all the proper documentation that charities are supposed to provide, and donations are tax-deductible fyi…
Not to make this about me, but….
Here’s what people want to know from me before they donate:
Dan have you run at all before, are you currently running, have you run any marathons before?
Yes, I run about 40 miles a week now
Yes, I’ve run 2 marathons before, 7,8 years ago. Times were 4:15 first marathon,(ran as a bandit) and 4:45 second marathon (was 85 degrees that day, 2d hottest Boston marathon in history)
In January 2011, as part of my ongoing training I ran the Boston Prep race, a 16 miler up in Derry, New Hampshire, but those people screwed something up with my timing chip, so they only got me clocked at the 5 mile mark, but my family and friends saw me cross the finish line just under 2:40, which averages out to a sub-10-minute mile which was my goal for that race.
***It took me a minute or two to get to the starting line, which is why crossing finish line at 2:40 is really like running the race at 2:38 or so.***
Some pictures from the Derry Race:
Drunk looking at the finish line with my son and niece all bundled up, it was a pretty cold day!
Recently I ran a 20-mile race in my state, here are some results, look for me at #159
Waiting to buy some pictures from that race to post here
Please leave a comment to stay subscribed to updates on all of this…this will be where I post updates and stuff, and will post my BIB # for the Boston Marathon if you wanna track my slowness during the April 18th date.
Leave a comment to let me know you donated, and again, many thanks to those of you who have already donated. I know who you are and you will be rewarded one way or another…

Hey Dan,
I gave a little change a while back and some today and would give more if I had the money for it. It’s funny how little response you got here. A testament to human nature. I hope I’m proven wrong. I’ll gladly make another donation when I get my next check. You’ve been immensely helpful to me even when you didn’t have to and for that I’m grateful. Thanks Dan!
Keep kickin’ ass bro!
Sammy, thanks for donating TWICE! That’s awesome, and I appreciate it…
About the minimal response, yes it’s human nature, and it’s also against my nature to ask people for anything, but it’s for a good cause and I cna humble myself for that.
… it also lets me know who to respond to on skype and email, haha!
I’m kidding there, I try to help out everyone, but if I had to choose between 2 emails or skype chats to respond to, I’d choose a donor’s over a non-donor’s…
THANK YOU again for the donation, I’m learning for this whole experience in multiple ways,
Dan
I don’t fill out online forms. I’ll gladly donate to you via PayPal and you can in turn use your donation account to donate the money. Let me know if that works for you.
Hi Elle, thanks and I do appreciate your hesitancy, please give me a day or two to check with the charity to make sure I can do things this way. I don’t want to break any of their fund-raising rules.
And thanks again,
Dan
If it’s easier, I can mail you a check. I’ve just did that for an autism walk and it worked out fine.
Thanks for your continued effort here Elle..
I got the OK to put a donation link up, but it then means you don’t get credit for the donation for tax deduction purposes. If you want to mail THEM a check they have that option there as well, I will dig up that information if you want…
Thanks, Daniel. I made the donation via PayPal.
Thanks Elle, I matched your donation, and matches Russ from NPP’s test donation as well, so you’ll see a $70 donation there from me, but it’s really yours and Russ’s matched 100% by me.
Thanks,
Dan
Way to go, Daniel – good to see the community isn’t just self-focused. It can get greedy in the industry, for sure – couldn’t imagine needing such services for my own family.
Awesome Daniel. We made a donation via paypal. Great work and good luck at the race!
Thanks Steve!

Don’t forget the N.O. Xplode on race day!
Thanks Vince, appreciate the donation. NO Xplode huh? Will look into it, sounds like an energy drink.
BTW, I matched your donation and some other ones that came in, very generous of you, thanks a bunch!
Dan
Congrats Man! Running for 4 hours is not an easy thing to do. I can’t even sit for that long
Good job, and it’s all for a really good cause.
Hey man,
Made a donation, even if a small one. Hope your race goes well. Sent out a note to twitter and facebook as well.
Best of luck.
Kurt
Kurt, thanks a lot buddy, everything helps!
Thanks for the socializing too, it helped spread the word.
You rock man!
Dan,
Sent in my support as well. Your work here is appreciated, but even more so what you’re doing for the kids. Great stuff. You’re doing an amazing job.
Dan
First time visitor here, thanks for providing good nuts and bolts information instead of just hype and a bunch of affiliate links. For that I wanted to make a donation. Sorry it was small but I’m your typical struggling marketer at the moment. Good luck and thanks for the information you are sharing on this blog.
Jason, thanks a LOT, your donation means more to me because of the intent with which it was given. I will match the donations made via paypal this week, and you will see this reflected on the charity site’s donation url.
Thank you!
Dan
UPDATE: For those following this via comments…
I FINALLY stopped putting off my 26 mile pre-race training run and did it today.
Body felt good doing it, but I was mentally weak, meaning that I stopped a few times even though I really didn’t have to.
I will NOT be doing that on race day, except to stop at 20 mile mark to take pictures with the kids we’re raising money for… the back to the run for 6 more miles to finish line, then a post-race shower, dinner, nap, then a well-deserved night out on the town.
Thanks again to everyone who’s helped me raise money for this cause, it has been difficult in a lot of ways, mainly because running this much takes a lot of time away form other things and causes all sorts of scheduling conflicts and hassles and what-not.
THANK YOU!
Dan
Hey Dan,
Just made a donation. Hope I’m not too late. Thanks for all the great advice. If I were at the marathon, I’d be waving one of those big foam hands in support. I hope all goes well.
Run On,
Paul
P.S. Please delete my duplicate comment. I had it attached to the wrong address. It doesn’t have my cool Mike Tyson avatar.
Paul, this is awesome! Thank you for the generous donation.
Bib # is 25410 if you’re bored that day and want to watch the progress
Congrats on running the marathon! How did it go?
Hi thanks it went well, I did it in 4:07:15 a personal record for me
Dan
I was hoping you were going to beat the Kenyans!
Keep running, just gotta cut your time in half next time!
Hello! Do you know if they make any plugins to help with SEO? I’m trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I’m not seeing very good results. If you know of any please share. Thank you!
